Below is the job description for “Performance Coach” which seeks to leverage a variety of skills and backgrounds to foster amazing fitness results among membership.



Edge4Life Performance Coach

An Edge4Life Performance Coach is primarily responsible for facilitating fitness excellence through any or multiple of the following five domains: Group Class Coaching, Small Group Coaching, Personal Coaching, Nutrition Coaching and Specialty Programs. The Performance Coach reports to the Head Coach and/or General Manager for direction on coaching methods, standard practices and feedback on performance. The Performance Coach works in collaboration with the Customer Success Manager for scheduling, intake, processing, billing and meeting with current and prospective members in order to facilitate their advancement in fitness.

Any Edge4Life Performance Coach may operate in any of the following five domains: Group Class Coaching, Small Group Coaching, Personal Coaching, Nutrition Coaching and Specialty Programs.

General Duties

  • Open/Close the gym using Edge4Life Open/Closing SOP
  • Meet with current and prospective members to discuss goals using NSI/Member Check-in templates in order to provide services
  • General Tidying and Cleaning duties in conjunction with coaching responsibilities

Group Class Coaching

  • Prepare for each class by observing program and scheduled members
  • Welcome members as they arrive for class
  • Begin class on time
  • Implement a productive warmup to prepare for the day’s program
  • Observe class during warmup for plans of action on individual modifications
  • Check-in, cue, coach, prepare each member in class for a productive class session using Edge4Life Group Coaching SOP as a guideline
  • Ensure member safety by fitting class activities to their current ability level
  • Use a wide variety of coaching techniques to elicit fitness progress and member understanding
  • Find opportunities to get to know members further so as to further facilitate their goals by getting to know their hobbies, families’ interests and outside activities.
  • Make notes for Bravo Cards to be sent to CSM weekly
  • Conclude class on time, return gym floor to the standard Edge4Life equipment setup

Personal and Small Group Coaching

  • Prepare for each session by writing a program or utilizing a standard Edge4Life Program and reviewing notes from previous session
  • Welcome member(s) as they arrive for session
  • Begin session on time
  • Implement a productive warmup to prepare for the day’s activities. Or, create a prescribed warmup to be completed prior to scheduled session based on the level of the member.
  • Provide specific cues at each movement in order to achieve maximal efficacy for given activity.
  • Ensure member success by selecting session activities to their current ability level
  • Use a wide variety of coaching techniques to elicit fitness progress and member understanding
  • Find opportunities to get to know members further so as to further facilitate their goals by getting to know their hobbies, families interests and outside activities.
  • When appropriate, make notes for Bravo Cards to be sent to CSM as the occasion arises.

Nutrition Coaching

  • Prepare a long term nutrition strategy for member
  • Meet with member face to face, over phone or through video conference to discuss goals on the timeline prescribed by their individual plan
  • Use Edge4Life resources, templates, worksheets, etc. to provide structure and guidance forward.
  • Prepare for each session by reviewing previous session notes and location in long term goal planning trajectory
  • Utilize technology to measure and reinforce progress
  • Post in the Edge4Life Nutrition Group slack channel periodically to stimulate discussing and feedback in a group setting
  • Record videos, run kick start programs, assist in development of materials as warranted by Edge4Life nutrition program needs
  • Ensure member progress by selecting goals and habits suitable to their current ability and commitment level in nutrition
  • Use a wide variety of coaching techniques to elicit nutrition progress and member understanding of nutrition principles
  • Find opportunities to get to know members further so as to further facilitate their goals by getting to know their hobbies, families interests and outside activities.
  • When appropriate, make notes for Bravo Cards to be sent to CSM as the occasion arises.

Specialty Programs

  • Work in collaboration with Head Coach and General Manager to develop specialty programs such as youth, weightlifting, yoga or other non-central Edge4Life Programs.
  • Write the program, field new interest, set the times and generally setup, configure and implement the class under the supervision and approval of the Head Coach
  • Document the SOPs for the configuration for future use

Other Skills and Required Job Tasks

  • Use web based apps and browsers
  • Use spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software
  • Learn new software, billing, and client management applications.

Experience Required

1 year of coaching in a professional environment

Education Required

Nutrition/Fitness certification required as the duties dictate. Acceptable certifications include:

CSCS

USAW

Precision Nutrition

CrossFit Certifications

NASM

CPT

B.S. in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field.
